Job summary

Clinical Coding is the bed rock of most of the Trusts business functions; key examples are Trust income derived from the Inpatient activity and in addition drivers such as the Marginal Rate for Emergency Activity and the derivation of mortality indicators such as HSMR and SHMI which are dependent on clinical coding to determine levels of complexity and complication.

To support the Trust, the Clinical Coding Department is responsible for ensuring that all admitted in-patient activity entered on to the Trust's Patient Administration System Cerner is accurately clinically coded within all required local and National timeframes

Main duties of the job

Demonstrate excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the use of ICD10 and OPCS4

Demonstrate knowledge of HRG classifications

Competent in use of computer-based systems including the Microsoft suite

Working knowledge of Electronic Patient Administration Systems in the NHS

Able to communicate complex coding rules to medical, clinical, managerial and administrative staff

Ability to see bigger picture and prioritise workload appropriately to meet team agenda

Working knowledge of the Data Protection Act

Knowledge of the National Tarriff and its relationship to coding

Knowledge and understanding of the wider use of the clinical coded data

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services.   • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering.
  • Recognised multi-skilled maintenance qualification across at least two engineering disciplines.
  • Completed apprenticeship or equivalent structured training in a relevant engineering or building-services trade.
  • Training in safe systems of work (e.g. Permit-to-Work, Lock-out/Tag-out, Risk Assessment, Hot Works).
  • Proven experience delivering reactive and planned maintenance in a large, multi-discipline environment.
  • Skilled in fault-finding and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Experience maintaining domestic and commercial water systems, pumps, pressure plant, and steam boiler and condensate-return systems.

Desirable

  • IOSH Working Safely / Managing Safely.
  • Authorised or Competent Person training in one or more HTM disciplines (Electrical, MGPS, Lifts, Pressure Systems, Ventilation).
  • Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) qualification for operation and maintenance of steam boiler and condensate return systems.
  • BMS operation or Trend-system training certification.
  • Asbestos Awareness and Manual Handling training.
  • Previous employment within an NHS Estates or other healthcare environment
  • Experience performing duties as a Competent Person under HTM or JSP 375 appointment.
