Job summary
1. To be accountable for the effective and efficient organisation, management, leadership, and development of the adult dietetic team at Hillingdon Hospital.
2. To provide specialist and expert therapeutic interventions to a defined caseload of complex patients, providing second opinions and specialist advice
3. To be responsible for the delivery of high quality, evidence-based dietetic advice to a complex ICU/HDU and surgical caseload within the hospital
4. To be an autonomous practitioner and work independently to manage a significant clinical caseload.
5. To provide leadership for senior, junior, & unqualified staff through supervision, support & appraisal.
Main duties of the job
6. To provide specialist input into a variety of MDTs including the adult intensive care teams, nutrition support team and colorectal surgical teams to ensure nutritional care plans are in place for patients under their care.
7. To contribute to policy development on matters relating to nutrition and dietetics.
8. To lead on audits across the dietetic service
9. To cover Band 6 and 7 work during annual leave or sickness. To deputise for Dietetic & Speech Therapy Service Manager(s) in his/her absence
10. To work with the Dietetic & Speech Therapy Service Manager(s) to provide operational management and leadership for Dietetic staff and on service improvements and developments.
This job is advertised as 22.5 hours, but this is up for discussion with the person who job shares in this role

Essential
- Degree or equivalent or post graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Evidence of current HCPC registration (State Registered Dietitian)
- Extensive postgraduate experience and thorough understanding of a variety of outpatient and inpatient work including care of elderly, stroke, gastro, medical and surgical wards including ICU/ HDU.
- Experience of working with patients with gastro, medical and surgical diagnoses and with patients who require artificial feeding (enteral and parenteral)
- Experience of working as part of a nutrition support MDT in the acute and/or community setting
- Experience of conducting (patient & staff) teaching groups within an MDT setting
- Experience of supervision of junior staff, recruitment, and objective setting/ personal development plans
- Demonstrable track record of dealing effectively with conflict management. strategies and conduct issues
- Excellent working knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management in particularly in nutrition support, gastro medicine, surgery, diabetes, CVD, IBS, IBD and coeliac disease.
- Knowledge of Governance and other current drivers & guidelines affecting practice e.g. NICE Guidelines for Nutrition Support in Adults

- Member of the British Dietetic Association or covered by professional indemnity insurance
- Evidence of further post graduate study in dietetics at masters level e.g., British Dietetic Association (BDA) postgraduate courses equivalent to Masters degree
- Member of specialist interest group e.g., BDA PENG
- Leadership or management training/ qualification
- Experience of investigating and responding to complaints
- Previous involvement in dietetic input to catering issues and menu planning
