Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Optometrist to join our busy Eye team at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals together with community clinics. We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated and proactive individual to work as autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage any patient referred to the Optometry department. The post holder will be required to undertake refraction for adult and paediatric refraction and optometry led glaucoma diagnostic clinics which are currently run daily at 2 community sites The paediatric refractions run in joint ophthalmology paediatric Dr clinics and paediatric joint orthoptic / optometry clinics. Ad hoc cover may be required in medical contact lens assessment and fitting and low vision aid assessment..
A comprehensive ophthalmology service is provided by 12 Ophthalmologists with general and speciality clinics including Paediatrics, Ocular-motility, Botulinum Toxin, AMD, Diabetic, Glaucoma, Medical Retinal, Oculoplastic and Corneal.
All staff participate in training ophthalmologists, optometrists, school nurses and medical students from Imperial University.
Willingness to work across sites is essential.
There is a planned move for the eye department to relocate to Mount Vernon Hospital towards the beginning of 2026.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will also be required to work as part of the multi-professional team one or more or the sub-specialised glaucoma, cataract, medical retina, IVT injection clinics, research and paediatric ophthalmology clinics, undertaking "extended role" optometry work. Previous experience preferred but training will be provided as required.
