We have an exciting post within our Speech Therapy team - we are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to jointly assist with leading speech and language therapy neurological rehabilitation services. The candidate will oversee a varied neuro-rehabilitation caseload predominantly across two wards; Daniel's Rehabilitation Unit and Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit. The post holder would provide support and supervision to a band 5 and a band 6 SLT, who provide cover to these units and the Stroke Unit.
Main duties of the job
This is a band 7 SALT post following additional funding by NHSE and NW London ICS for Rapid Access to Acute Rehab (RAAR). The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with Imperial College deliver 4 of the 8 beds intended for the North West London sector. The funding is intended to reduce the waiting time for patients needing level 1 neuro-rehabilitation beds.
The Neurological Rehabilitation service at Hillingdon is based across 2 sites; Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital (Daniel's Unit is currently on the Hillingdon site due to refurbishment). The Alderbourne unit and Daniel's unit provide multidisciplinary rehabilitation for patients with neurological impairments and other complex conditions such as TBI, spinal injuries and poly-trauma patients. The candidate should be someone who is highly experienced in assessing and managing dysphagia in neurological conditions as well as managing patients with cognitive and communication deficits following acquired brain injury. The post holder should have a sound understanding of tracheostomy care, with further access to training where required. The post holder will be Videofluoroscopy competent and participate in weekly VF clinics. Experience in FEES and supervision of junior colleagues is desirable.

The SLT Department have established the FEES service across these wards and expanding this service into the critical-care setting, and therefore this post will assist with the development of the service.
If Daniels moves back to the Mount Vernon site, the post holder will be expected to travel between sites to provide support to our patients. There is a free shuttle bus service and parking options to facilitate cross site working. The Hillingdon Rehabilitation service collaborates closely with the Charing Cross Neuro rehabilitation team. We are part of a network of acute services and level 1 rehabilitation services to ensure a smooth transition of care from neuro-intensive care to the community.
You will have opportunity to work with a specialist MDT including Consultant Neurologists, Psychologists, MS & PD specialist nurses, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietitians and the Environmental Control team.
Our supportive team provides a monthly CPD programme, monthly supervision sessions and team meetings. We are proud of relationships we have fostered on the stroke and neurorehabilitation wards. The candidate would have an expectation to provide regular teaching and training to nurses, medics and the MDT.
As a team we look to continually improve the service we provide; this role also offers opportunity for participating and leading on service development projects and outcomemeasures. Furthermore, the hospital has academic links with nearby Brunel University, which has resulted in a number of therapy colleagues participating in supported studying.
