Staff Nurse - Dermatology

Job summary

Part time - 16 hrs per week

An opportunity has arisen to join our Dermatology Department as a Band 5 Staff Nurse. The successful candidate will be required to work within our Dermatology Outpatients Service and will be fully supported to develop their knowledge and expertise. You should have recent clinical experience at Band 5 in an acute Trust setting, as well as evidence of continued professional development. Good interpersonal and communication skills, along with good time management and personal organisation skills, are also essential.

The Dermatology Department is a dynamic and progressive service with a dedicated and friendly nursing team, fully supported by our team of doctors. We provide a range of day care treatments, including phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, and topical treatments to patients with acute and chronic skin diseases (such as skin cancer and wounds).The service currently operates Monday to Friday and the post holder will be expected work at both of our sites at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to be supported to develop expertise within this specialty. Experience within a dermatology setting is desirable; however consideration will be given to a candidate who demonstrates a keen interest in developing a career within dermatology and has a proven track record of personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job

• To assist in the management of the Dermatology Outpatient department and deputise for the Senior Nurses as and when required.
• To facilitate and provide high quality care for patients and visitors to the Hospital and the department.
• To communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
• To support the delivery of Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Services within the 18WW pathway.
• To be responsible for the assessment, delivery, implementation and evaluation of nursing care in the dermatology department without supervision.
• To act as a role model to nursing staff.
• Participate in a clinical support role with medical/surgical clinicians and nurse specialist carrying out skin surgery and general clinics.
• To maintain confidentiality of information regarding patients, families and friends at all times.
• Ability to assess wounds and dress them appropriately to promote healing.
• To maintain legible and accurate clinical records and legal documentation.
