Job summary
This post is for a part time 22.5 hrs per week for a Newborn Hearing Screener Band 3 that is accountable to the Newborn Hearing Senior Screener and Manager. The Newborn Hearing Screener is to be able to work as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
To work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of new-born babies, under the supervision of the Newborn Hearing Senior Screener and Manager. This post will involve direct handlingof newborn babies and contact with parents.
The post holder is responsible for providing high standards of family-friendly and professional contact when carrying out NHSP protocols and work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of new babies.
To gather and accurately record clinical and test data relevant to the screening process. Utilise information technology to maintain databases and to be computer literate and use the screening programme's applications to ensure that the protocols are adhered to and interrogate the application to amend incorrect data.

Job responsibilities
To work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of new born babies, under the supervision of the Newborn Hearing Screening Senior Screener and Manager. This post will involve direct handling of newborn babies and contact with parents. Ensuring a quality service is delivered. The shift will be split over 4 days over a week, these are negotiable. The service is a 7 day service so therefore this will include weekend working within your working hours.
The post holder is responsible for providing high standards of family-friendly and professional contact when carrying out NHSP protocols and work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of new babies. You will be required to take on a diploma in Health Screening which has been in place since April 2017.
To gather and accurately record clinical and test data relevant to the screening process. Utilise information technology to maintain databases, use the screening programmes applications to ensure that the protocols are adhered to and interrogate the application to amend incorrect data.
The post will involve direct handling of newborn babies and contact with families. The post holder will require the ability to monitor the arousal state of the baby before and during the screening process, to develop a professional relationship with parents and carers ensuring that at all times an empathetic and caring attitude is adopted. The post requires sensitivity when dealing with new parents and the post holder has to be able to handle stressful situations which may occur, giving reassurance and instigate emergency procedures if necessary. Where barriers to communication exist these must be overcome.
Work with the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), maintaining NICU protocols and following procedures laid down for babies within the unit. Develop professional relationships with the NICU staff to ensure that the integrity of the baby, parents and families are maintained. All NICU babies undergo both AOAE and ABBR screens and screening is undertaken whilst treatment is still being received.
Develop interfaces with other health professionals e.g. Midwives, Health Visitors, Maternity Staff and Child Health, to manage the processes between these professionals ensuring all babies are offered screening and the protocols and processes are followed. Keep up to date records and statistics enabling the interface processes to be audited.
