Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our service for enthusiastic, flexible and motivated ED Staff Nurses to join our friendly dynamic hard-working Staff Bank.

You will Provide expert emergency treatment to patients in the event of their condition deteriorating initiating relocation to an appropriate area, including liaising with the ambulance service to organise critical care transfers. Take accountability for patients' treatment and care and if professionally unhappy escalate accordingly. Assists junior staff in developing the ability to escalate when problems occur. Liaise with members of the multidisciplinary (MDT) to provide holistic care with the aim of achieving an effective primary-secondary care interface.

MUST Have six months or more experience in ED Hospital settings.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide clinical nursing and managerial expertise in all aspects of the speciality, ensuring the highest possible standard for nursing care and technical equipment care, with efficient utilisation of resources. Also providing clinical nursing expertise in all aspects of the speciality and working independently with patients who will be assessed, treated and discharged or admitted after their episode of unscheduled care.
  2. To develop and maintain a department philosophy of care based on the Trust's core objectives.
  3. To lead staff and create positive working relationships within the team whilst monitoring and appraising performance. To work as part of the multidisciplinary team and create positive working relationships within it. Is able to refer patients to the correct speciality teams, where it would be unsafe to discharge them.
  4. To be responsible for creating a dynamic environment, which is conducive to learning, practice development and research within a framework of evidence based practice.
  5. As a Shift Leader, carry Bleep 836 and be operationally responsible for all that occurs during that shift.
