Job summary

The Hillingdon Hospital Outpatients Department

Band 5 Registered Nurse

Monday - Friday

Hours are between 08.00-18.00

37.5 hours per week

The Outpatients Department at Hillingdon Hospital offers care to adults referred by their local GP service, tertiary referral, and follow up appointment for further treatment or following discharge. Our services are both general and specialised and include a range of consultant and nurse-led clinics.

Therefore applications are welcomed from Band 5 Registered Nurses with a methodical and well-organised approach to work. As a staff nurse in the Outpatients Department you only have a short time to make the best impression. You must be an advocate of our Trust values and develop good working relationships with patients, carers and the multi professional team. The post holder will be based at The Hillingdon Hospital Outpatient department but must be prepared to work within all Outpatients departments at both Mount Vernon and Hillingdon Hospitals when the service requires ; a Monday - Friday shuttle bus is available free of charge between both hospitals.

Main duties of the job

Caring for the patient in the Outpatient Department throughout their journey

Carrying out clinical and non-clinical duties

Obtaining patients observations

Supported by the Senior Nursing team

Working alongside Doctors and the MDT

Running clinics with the Nursing team and assisting in procedure clinics.

Ensuring standards and policies are followed

Following Infection control guidelines

Teaching and supporting Junior staff

Upholding the good reputation of Outpatients

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust's services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Our Outpatient service is a busy and friendly place to work. Our local patient surveys and friends and family test praise our staff as being caring, professional and welcoming. The Outpatient department delivers care to a wide range of patients who are seen in clinics that includes all areas of medical and surgical specialities within a hospital setting. Our focus is on providing an exceptional patient experience, delivering excellent customer care to patients and their families, we aim to see patients within half an hour of their appointment time and if this is not possible then clinic staff have to communicate any delays to patients to lessen their anxieties. Working with us also offers opportunities to develop skills in customer care, working with a multi-disciplinary team, multi cultural patient group and offers training in relevant clinical skills and IT systems

To ensure that our workforce is representative of the population we serve, we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

We are looking for a hardworking, well organised Staff nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will be able to work in a variety of Outpatient settings. They need to be a good communicator.
