Health Care Assistant Band 3
37.5 hours per week

As part of the patient care team you would assist in caring for the patients on these very busy unit, encompassing many types of surgery, orthopaedics, colorectal, urology, vascular, dental, gynae, pain, and eye surgery.
An NVQ 2 or 3 is essential and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a willingness to learn and gain new skills.
We are looking for someone who is confident, motivated and reliable with good communication skills.

Main duties of the job
ROLE
The Health Care Assistant is a member of the Department who assists the qualified professional in the carrying out patient care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To assist patients to dress and undress when needed.
- To help serve snacks/beverages with post-operative patients. To order snack box when needed.
- To help patients to be as comfortable as possible during their stay and to ensure they can rest post-operatively for better recovery prior to discharge.
- To assist the patients to and from the toilet and empty the urine bags when needed.
- To care for the patients' bed space including tidying, cleaning the bed and locker and any other furniture as necessary.
- To give help and support to patients and carers during their stay as appropriate. To provide on-going support to patients and significant others.
- To help patients pack and unpack clothing in admission, transfer or discharge when needed. To help care for property.
- To help patients to use equipment that helps with their movement.
- To be able to do OBS on pre-op patients and post-op patients on the unit and report any concern to the appropriate person.
- Screen patients for MRSA by taking Micro swabs samples.
- To promote patient communication and assist the patient/carer when required.
- To accompany patients to departments and ensure their safe return.
- To monitor and maintain stock, equipment, and materials.
