This post will involve working with the orthogeriatric team who provide input to patients with neck of femur fractures enabling assessment of non-hip fragility fractures and other silver trauma patients admitted under the orthopaedic and general surgery teams.

The orthogeriatric service is run by Dr Julie Vowles, with consultant support also provided by Dr Kishan Parmar, Dr Aloysius D'Souza and Dr Zeenat Ijaz. Surgical liaison is currently provided by Dr D'Souza. The fracture liaison service is led by Dr Parmar working with two fracture liaison nurses.

It is a requirement of the post that every doctor takes part in annual job planning and annual appraisal as part of the revalidation of cycle.

About us

Joining our Hillingdon Team provides a unique opportunity for joint working across boundaries as we are an established stakeholder in Hillingdon Health and Care Partners (HHCP). The partners are the Acute Trust, Central and North West London Foundation Trust (who provide community and mental health services), Hillingdon GP confederation and the Voluntary Sector (H4All) who work closely with the local authority and Brunel University. This is in line with North West London integrated care system (ICS) to provide outcome based care. We are further developing specialist services provided by all four partners in HHCP especially in admission prevention, falls, fracture liaison service, early supported discharge, care home liaison with a new focus on increased community support.

We have good academic links with the nearby Brunel University with a vision towards setting up and driving forward an academic health campus with close links between the University and Hillingdon Hospitals Trust and a newly formed Medical School. The trust is already involved with the Physicians Associate program run through Brunel.

Within the next 4 years a new hospital is planned for this site and the post holder will have the opportunity to shape services and support this work through the clinical strategy and design process.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This post will allow a larger number of silver trauma patients to be reviewed in a more timely fashion and allow for consistent consultant cover. We have excellent results for hip fractures as recorded in the national hip fracture database and continued multi-professional review of the results has resulted in significant service improvements.

We aim to develop this by early assessments of distal femur and silver trauma patients in line with best practice guidelines and major trauma centre peer review recommendations. Close working with general surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, anaesthetics and pain teams will be needed for further progress in service development and streamlined patient pathways.
