Job summary
This role is a highly specialised position. The individual will require an expert working knowledge of both clinical radiography and the core radiology information systems in use at this Trust and will help ensure that the systems effectively & safely support the radiology service, both within the organisation and across the wider healthcare community. They will also ensure that expected benefits to patients and staff from their implementation are fully realised and will liaise with all manner of clinical and non-clinical Trust staff and system vendors in pursuit of these goals.
In order to perform these duties the post holder must retain clinical competence as a state registered radiographer. A minimum of 20% of their time will be spent performing clinical duties, including cross-sectional imaging, in order that they may effectively perform the duties set out below.
This holder of this role will provide support for all radiology systems, including RIS (Radiology Information System) and PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication System) and its associated advanced image processing systems, including Terarecon.
As a member of the radiology systems team, working closely with local and ICS IT and projects team, the post holder will contribute to the strategic direction of the service ensuring it remains effective and responsive. This necessarily includes formulating and implementing local, Trust and National guidelines and policies.
Main duties of the job
Operational
- Responsible for ensuring the provision of Radiological images and reports 24hrs a day, seven days a week across the Trust
- Act as a local subject matter expert in systems and imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, Ultrasound, CR (Computerised Radiography), DR (Direct Radiography), Angiography, Fluoroscopy and Nuclear Medicine, and be able to identify, analyse and correct issues/faults in images
- To monitor and ensure smooth/uninterrupted operation of Radiology systems including PACS, RIS, the numerous imaging modalities and all relevant interfaces that operate between them
- To ensure all necessary hardware and software maintenance/house-keeping is performed according to defined programs on a daily/weekly/monthly basis to keep systems operating at optimal/safe levels
- To provide first and second line system support to end users during normal working hours
- To take part in the out-of-hours radiology systems support rota as required
- Use detailed knowledge of system functionality and hospital workflow to advise clinical users, sometimes in high-pressure situations, on the most effective/efficient use of the resources available
- Responsible for promoting/ensuring system data quality at all times and investigating/ resolving problems that pose significant clinical risk, e.g. a study allocated to a wrong patient.
