Job summary

We currently have a vacancy and are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Pharmacy Assistant to work in a busy Department to support our Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. You will join an experienced team of Pharmacy Assistants who deal with patient prescriptions basic labelling and dispensing duties, packing medicinal products, visiting wards to replenish stocks, assisting in departmental stocktaking and other general duties.

Experience of hospital or retail pharmacy would be an advantage. You will hold an NVQ 2 in Pharmacy Services as this is an essential qualification for the post and be willing to undergo additional local training in dispensing practice as well as working relevant NVQ Level 3 accreditation for extended medicines optimisation roles. Full training will be given to enable you to achieve this within 12 months of the appointment. You will also have experience of providing good customer service to the public and are able to work carefully, accurately and quickly in a busy environment. Keyboard skills will be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

  • Communicate medicines related information to counsel patients/carers regarding prescribed medicines and assessing additional information needs.
  • Provides and receives complex and/or sensitive information which requires tact or persuasive skills or where there are barriers to understanding, referring for support from supervisor as appropriate.
  • Ensure availability of and gives information to patients/ parents/carers regarding medicines and where patients may have language difficulties, physical or mental
  • Communicates with other healthcare professionals regarding supply of medicines, pharmacy services and application of pharmacy procedures
  • Required to input, search and retrieve data into the Pharmacy JAC computer system in order to process prescriptions/requisitions and run reports.
  • Placates patients in relation to waiting and service arrangements.
  • Liaise with porters to ensure completed boxes and bags are taken to the wards.
  • Communicates any messages which could not be dealt with to a senior technician but deals with any routine queries.
  • Work as a member of the clinical pharmacy team.
