Job summary

We are looking for a registered Nurse who is compassionate, accountable and has extensive experience and skills to support staff in our oncology ward. The oncology ward cares for patients with solid tumours and haematological disorders and has a dedicated bed for those patients requiring inpatient Radioactive iodine, throughout all stages. We are looking for a Registered Nurse who is motivated, passionate, and willing to support the ward manger in leading a team of nurses with varying level of ward experience.

In your role you will provide the ward with leadership, expertise in caring for cancer patients who are admitted for SACT or SACT complications or progression of their cancer diagnoses and you can lead and support the ward manger and the MDT team within a haematology and or oncology unit setting in providing the appropriate care for this group of patients.

If you are a registered nurse who can demonstrate you have the leadership skills and qualities who is open, transparent, and trustworthy, with the ability to communicate clearly, is highly motivated with a desire to work within an Oncology, Haematology setting. Main duties of the job

Provide clinical and professional leadership and support in the absence of the ward manager.

To deputise for the ward/ department manager in his / her absence and take a lead on delegated responsibilities as defined by the ward manager.

Ensure clinical practice on the ward is evidence based and to monitor the safety and quality of care for cancer patients.

Responsible for supporting the ward manager for the coordination and supervision of staff practice and taking responsibility for the education and development of staff this includes ensuring mandatory training and appraisal compliance.

Support the ward manager implement policies and practices within the oncology clinical area.

Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service through internal rotation.

Undertake night duty and provide cover across the working week this will include a minimum of 4 shifts per month in addition to covering weekends to support the administration of patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment therapy across several tumours' groups.

The post is based on Podium ward 1 however they maybe opportunities to explore a rotation position within cancer services

After several years of ever closer working, North Mid and Royal Free London are planning to come together as one organisation to enable them to go further and faster in improving services for patients and the health of the local community than they can achieve separately. The merger of North Mid into the RFL group is currently expected to take place on 1 January 2025, subject to NHS England and Secretary of State approval.
