Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a MacMillan clinical nurse specialist with extensive Haemato-Oncology experience to join our busy haematology department. You will provide expert advice and support for myeloma patients and their families, this includes psychological, social, and cultural support. You will be expected to offer expert advice to other health care professionals through education and training.

We are looking for an individual who is motivate, caring and have a genuine interest in this speciality to work within the MDT supporting this group of patients. The post holder will work with the inpatient and outpatient teams, to help us deliver outstanding high-quality care where your contributions are valued.

As part of your role, you will be expected to attend consultant ward round, MDT meetings and undertake nurse led clinics in conjunction with the consultant.

Main duties of the job

  • Liaise with the staff in the day unit and inpatient wards, be able to identify and implement strategies for patient and public involvement in service delivery within haematology. Attend and participate in departmental/ trust wide meetings as appropriate
  • Undertake end of treatment reviews and provide written summaries for the patient and GP.
  • Develop treatment plans based on the specific needs of each patient, including the education of patients on their condition and monitoring their progress
  • To underpin practice with the development of robust clinical policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure they reflect the monitoring of patients condition prior to receiving treatments such as blood transfusions or chemotherapy
  • Attend monthly peer supervision with the other CNS's, in order to plan and evaluate the specialist nursing service and facilitate case discussion and support.
  • undertake nurse led clinics
  • To participate in patient education and counselling using methods such as one to one meetings or group sessions. This will involve you maintaining up-to-date literature, information tools and provision of sources of information.
  • Act as an advocate for Macmillan services to ensure patients are provide with the appropriate Macmillan support information leaflets for their disease.
