Job summary

We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic and caring person with an interest in nutrition and dietetics, who is keen to develop their skills in nutrition care, to join our friendly and dynamic Dietetic team at the NMUH. This role will include both clinical and administrative responsibilities including discharge planning. working as part of the dietetic team , you will assist the dietitians in delivery of individual dietetic care plans and patient education for both inpatients and outpatients,. We are the first Nutrition & Dietetic Department in London to commence seven day services, and you will be required to work week-ends as part of the department rota with senior supporting staff. You must have a good general education with numeracy, literacy, computer and excellent communication skills, and be effective in multidisciplinary team working. You will work closely with the Dietitians, multi-disciplinary teams, and non-clinical staff. The dietetic department undertakes student training for 2 and 3 placements. You will be involved in student training as appropriate. Both the Dietetic Department and NMUH have a robust continuous professional development (CPD) programme, and are committed to providing excellent line management, supervision/support tailored to your needs. You will be supported in developing your skills and knowledge with relevant competencies and supervision. You will have the opportunity to apply for dietetic degree apprenticeship courses as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a team member liaising closely with Dietitians, patients, carers, nursing, therapy, catering, other health professional staff and nutritional companies.
  • To work within scope of practice, under the supervision of the allocated supervisor/s to assist in the provision of a patient-focused dietetic service for all inpatients and outpatients at NMUH. This includes both adults and paediatrics services.
  • To work under the supervision of the allocated supervisor/s to improve the nutritional intakes of patients as identified by the Dietitian.
  • To undertake a clinical caseload for inpatients and outpatients as appropriate and within scope of practice.
  • To support the Nutrition and Dietetic Team in delivery of ward based training and education, and in raising awareness of the importance of nutrition amongst ward staff, including the use of MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool).
  • To undertake administrative duties to support the Nutrition and Dietetic team. This will include discharge planning, Eregistration, letters for home enteral feeding discharge, liaison with community and enteral feeding companies, and onward referrals.
  • To assist with identification of patients requiring dietetic input.
  • To deliver the service in line with relevant policies, procedures and standards.
  • To complete British Dietetic Dietetic Support Worker Competencies as appropriate.
