Job summary

A great opportunity has arisen for a full-time Deputy domestic services manager to join us at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust.

Reporting primarily to the Domestic Services Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the overall supervision of all Domestics Supervisors and Domestic Assistants and for the day-to-day running of the Domestic Services Department.

The role is to manage staff effectively and ensure efficient working practices and standards are in place, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and to ensure national cleaning standards and local targets are met and exceeded, and to provide an effective, quality and efficient service across 24-hour, 7 day a week, range of domestic services. To provide safe and efficient cleaning standards by ensuring consistent satisfactory levels of service are always provided. To co-ordinate on a day-to-day basis with the senior management, ensuring the appropriate implementation of all relevant operational policies.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The effective management of the domestic services department, ensuring that at all times the department is delivered in accordance with current legislation and Trust Policies.
  • To be responsible for the overall control, organisation and operation of the Domestic Services Department at North Middlesex Hospital NHS Trust.
  • To Ensure that the Domestic Services Department always complies with current legislation.
  • To continually review and introduce where necessary effective monitoring measures to ensure that the supply of a Domestic service to service users is controlled at critical points throughout the supply chain.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that all quality monitoring audits are completed to the agreed schedule and up to date evidence of rectification is readily available to liaise with suppliers, finance department and regional stores.
  • To exercise effective budgetary control i.e. ensure that cost centres within Domestic services are contained within pre-determined targets.
  • To ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation
  • To ensure compliance with the mandatory and appraisal processes.
  • To maintain records in relation to the completion of periodic/clinical/HPV cleans
  • To monitor sickness absence and take appropriate action under the Trusts procedure for dealing with sickness absence.
  • To monitor the Domestic Departments staffing establishment and keep to the pre-determined levels.
  • To give advice to other health professionals on planning matters affecting the Domestic department and associated areas.
  • To maintain management information systems.
  • To ensure that the Domestic services department complies with all policies of the Trust.
  • To deputise in the absence of the Domestic Services Manager Liaise with representatives of the Contracted organisations on both on a formal and informal basis to promote and ensure adequate and effective communication.
