About us
The Department consists of 12 substantive Consultants (6 WTE) with 3 visiting Consultants. The Cardiology department moved into a new purpose built self-contained out-patient and investigation unit in April 2013. This includes a one stop heart failure clinic for new diagnosis of heart failure and an advanced heart failure clinic, as well as dedicated electrophysiology clinics and newly developed valve and TAVI clinic. We also run a joint cardiology - obstetric clinics. There is a cardiology in the community initiative; specialist nurse led heart failure and rapid access chest pain clinics, cardiac rehabilitation as well as all cardiac investigations and general cardiac outpatient clinics. All non-invasive investigations are performed in the department adjacent to consulting rooms. Most outpatients complete their investigations during their outpatient attendance.
The department is expanding and to meet the demand on services the outpatient department has been extended. This has provided four additional outpatient examination rooms and additional administrative areas for reporting and office space.
A new state of the art cardiac catheterisation laboratory opened in November 2014. This performs regular diagnostic cardiac catheterisation, simple EP procedures and pacing.
The department offers open access for non-invasive investigations including echocardiography, exercise stress testing, Holter monitoring, 24 hour BP, and ECG which are utilised by a large number of local GPs
