Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8a Psychologist to join North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH) on a part time, permanent basis.
The postholder will be based in the Cardiology Department of NMUH, delivering services to people living with long term conditions.
Although based in the Cardiology Department, the post sits under Clinical Health Psychology which is a small, friendly team of psychologists inputting to services across the hospital.
The post is advertised at 0.4 WTE, however there may be opportunities to increase this as the service and Clinical Health Psychology department expands and attains more funding. There is the opportunity for flexible working.
As the only Psychologist based in Cardiology you will be asked to provide a high quality, specialized clinical psychology service to clients in Cardiology services across all relevant areas in NMUH. This includes: specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy as well as offering advice, supervision, training and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines. To use research skills for audit, policy, service development and research within the area served by the team/service. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/team.
Main duties of the job
Clinical responsibilities:
Provide specialist psychological assessments of clients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's mental health problems, across the full range of Cardiology settings.
Be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions.
Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
Provide specialist psychological advice and consultation to other professionals.
Contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
Communicate across language and cultural barriers by communicating with patients, carers or groups through professional interpreters or advocates.
