Job summary

An exciting opportunity has been created within the Surgical Division for a Deputy General Manager (8B) post.

The role will predominantly support the General Manager and Divisional Director Operations in laying out operational strategies and improvement journey across Surgery Critical Care and Associated Services.

This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who has significant experience in operational management and exceptional leadership skills believe they are ready for the next step to gain further senior management experience.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the day to day operational delivery of a number of divisional services specifically Cancer, Critical Care Anaesthetics and Theatres. These services are pivotal to the effective performance management of the Division and requires a strong leader who has a keen eye for detail, has strong planning skills along with the ability to ensure there are robust service continuity plans in place at all times.

About us

The Surgery Division is a diverse portfolio of services and provides both planned and unplanned (Trauma and Surgical emergency) care to the population of Enfield and Haringey. In addition, we have a number of specialised services including General Surgery, Vascular, Colorectal, Urology and Breast Cancer, Ophthalmology, Critical Care, Outpatients, Phlebotomy and Pharmacy within the Division.

Essential

  • Post graduate and Masters degree qualification or equivalent experience in Operational Management relevant to the role
  • Leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience of implementing changes to patient services, delivering tangible and sustained quality and cost effective improvements.

Desirable

  • Project Management or Prince 2 qualification

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge of the NHS in the acute sector with up to date knowledge of patient services.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of: - Financial management, People Management, Performance Management & Information Systems
  • Demonstrable skills in:- Leadership/ Influencing, Communication/presentation both Verbally and using Microsoft Office & Staff management and engagement
  • Able to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create conditions for successful partnership working.

Desirable

  • Understanding the changing NHS environment and its impact on service provision and staff.

Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of managing RTT and associated elective targets
  • Through knowledge of Demand and Capacity modelling
  • Significant experience in completing business case and planning
