Job summary
The Associate Director of Nursing is appointed to provide expert, experienced, proven nursing leadership within the Triumvirate. The post holder will report to the Divisional Director of Nursing, AHP and Quality and will provide strategic vision, clarity of purpose and oversee a clinically safe and cost-effective service within the Specialist Medicine Directorate.
Main duties of the job
The Associate Director of Nursing is responsible and accountable for providing comprehensive and robust professional leadership, guidance, advice, support, and direction to nurses, within the Specialist Medicine Directorate to ensure that patients are managed and cared for effectively, efficiently and safely. The Associate Director of Nursing is expected to work in accordance with objectives agreed with the Divisional Leadership Triumvirate and professionally accountable to the Chief Nurse.
The Associate Director of Nursing will be accountable for the nursing workforce within the Specialist Medicine Directorate portfolio and have autonomy to be able to flex that workforce within an agreed standard and funded establishment.
As part of the Specialist Medicine Managerial Directorate, the Associate Director of Nursing will be accountable for the delivery of the full business agenda and on behalf of the Directorate and will lead the infection prevention and control agenda, the Regulatory and Quality Commission compliance agenda and will progress all elements of the clinical governance agenda. The Associate Director of Nursing will support the improvement and strengthening of quality of care by working closely with the local governance leads. A key part of this role will include ensuring the delivery of CQC standards.

- NMC/HCPC Registration
- Degree in Nursing/Health related subject
- Masters level qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Teaching/mentorship Qualification
- Management Qualification or evidence of training in management processes and other HR issues
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development relevant to this role
Desirable
- Evidence of specialist knowledge in a particular relevant area
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Significant experience at a Band 8 level in an acute care setting
- Clinical competence, including administering drugs
- Evidence of significant management experience, communicating at all levels of the organisation
- Budgetary management experience and understanding of the current NHS financial regime
- Experience of staff management including managing recruitment, performance monitoring, and appraisal, induction and mentoring.
