Job summary

This Clinical Teaching Fellow post has been established to develop the career of a clinician with an interest in Medical Education.The post holder will be expected to participate in the delivery of teaching and assessments for medical students and support their learning while they are on their clinical placements at the Trust.The post is full time and available for one year. There are no on-call commitments.

About us

The Education Centre is responsible for the provision and quality control of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education to meet national requirements for training, with the wider purpose of improving standards of patient care.Led by the Postgraduate Director of Medical Education (PGDME) and the Medical Education Manager (MEM), the department works towards improving and assuring the quality of postgraduate medical teaching and learning that is provided within the Trust and aims to improve the recognition of the Trust as a Centre of Excellence for lifelong learning, fostering a culture of enthusiasm for excellent teaching and learning among all grades of medical staff. Medical Students come from UCL medical school, St George's International Medical School in Grenada and as Electives from unaffiliated hospitals.The primary focus of this post will be attending to students placed at NMUH from St Georges International Medical School. SGU is one of the worlds largest medical schools based in Grenada, West Indies. NMUH has been affiliated with SGU for over 30 years and are the largest UK site taking SGU students. We have around 100 students on site at any one time and many students undertake all their clinical rotations in the UK. SGU students come from a variety of countries around the world providing a rich and varied environment for learning

At North Middlesex University Hospital Become familiar with the SGU curriculum and NBME exam structure Liaise with junior doctors and consultants to arrange teaching in the clinical environment forSGU students Develop and deliver tutorials, lectures and other educational sessions such as simulationtraining for SGU students Support the other CTFs in coordination of the UCL medical student mock OSCEs (four peryear) and the annual finals MBBS OSCE examination. Evaluate the teaching provided to students on their clinical placements through collectingfeedback from students and liaising with clinical rotation leads. Provide pastoral support and academic guidance to students, including liaising with theireducational supervisors and clerkship directors Recruit and oversee junior doctor teaching leads in roles such as bedside teaching, out ofhours (twilight) teaching and simulation teaching for SGU students. Supervise junior doctors in their professional development as clinical teachers, through peerobservation and feedback. Lead on AMBOSS training for SGU students. The successful candidate would be encouragedto utilize technology to optimize educational output. Organise Clinical Skills sessions for the SGU students The successful candidate would be encouraged to pursue research opportunities over thecourse of the post.
