Job summary
North Middlesex Maternity: "A career in Midwifery, not just a job."
At North Middlesex we have a brand new, well equipped Delivery Suite which offers care to women from Enfield and Haringey who come from a diverse range of backgrounds. We care for many women with complex needs which creates a challenging environment and provides a great opportunity for learning and development within a supportive and learning-focused team.
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic midwife to co-ordinate and lead shifts on our Delivery suite, working collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team and management to provide a high-standard of safe, women-centred care.
Here at North Middlesex maternity, we can offer you a career, not just a job. Our midwives are supported in their learning and development to help them to reach their full potential. This includes secondment opportunities within specialist teams, shadowing opportunities with members of the senior team, leadership programmes and Chief Nurse fellowship programmes. There is also the chance to be part of the talent management process.
Main duties of the job
The role is multifaceted and will require an ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining safety of women and staff at all times. The postholder will need a high level of clinical experience and must act as a role model and supervisor to junior staff and students and set the tone for a healthy and safe work culture.
The role involves co-ordinating shifts on the labour ward, assessing acuity, prioritising and delegating appropriately, being mindful of skill mix and other unit pressures, escalating concerns as required.
About us
Our Trust has staff accommodation in North London, and is situated within easy reach of London rail terminals, Luton and Stanstead airports, and central London. We are in Zone 4, making travel to work on public transport less expensive than going into central London, as well as offering on-site parking.
We currently look after 4700 births per year and book over 5000 women for antenatal care. Our improvements over the last 18 months have seen us receiving praise from NHS Improvement regarding our committed approach to supportive management. A CCG Insight visit noted the improvements in morale and culture, with staff reporting good support and a culture of learning rather than blame. Our students are rating us highly in their university feedback, with our Poppy Team receiving "Practice Excellence Award 2020" from City University. Our Bereavement Service received the RCM award for Bereavement care in 2018. As of June 2021 we received the Capital Midwife Preceptorship Mark. Our maternity service now receives 5 star reviews on NHS choices!
This is a service on the up, and we recognise that there is great competition in London to get the best midwives into their workforce, we believe that at North Middlesex you can truly flourish.
We offer flexible working, including annualised hours, compressed hours, and working patterns to suit candidates who will have a home base some miles away or abroad and who will wish to travel home.
