Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our chronic pain and rehabilitationteam. The specialist multi-disciplinary team require a full time (37.5 hours) occupational therapist who cancontribute to compassionate, patient centred care.Our integrated MDT includes physiotherapists, psychologists and nurses. We have inpatient and outpatienttreatment streams and provide tailored holistic rehabilitation for patients living with chronic pain and otherlong term conditions. The Occupational Therapists explore every aspect of function, including return towork, enabling these complex clients to manage their condition and quality of life more effectively. This is an exciting post, which will enable you to draw on both your physical and mental health skills.We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who wants to work as a valued member of an MDTcontributing to the psychological and physical wellbeing of our patients; and who seeks to learn and wantsto contribute to excellence in all we do.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a varied caseload of outpatients, and will contribute to the inpatient rehabilitationprogrammes.You will be required too complete biopsychosocial assessments,o set patient goals,o guide a programme of finely graded activity,o promote self-management of long-term conditions through education in 1:1 and group sessions.You will benefit from a structure of clinical specialists, peer support and supervision, and engage in MDTprojects to improve and develop the service. You will participate in department teaching programmesalongside colleagues within the MDT and other clinical specialities.

Patient/client care

1. Attains competencies for the safe use of all equipment and techniques before use.

2. Once training period complete, uses evidence based knowledge and clinical reasoning to undertake routine and complex clinical assessment, in a relevant location, eg hospital, nursery, school, work or home, identifying patient needs, treatment aims and goals in collaboration with the individual patient and the MDT. These may be in-patients, out-patients or those attending specialist clinics. Assessment and treatment may include splinting, wheelchair adjustment, therapeutic handling / hoisting and discharge planning in a busy and unpredictable environment.

3. Uses professional skills to engage patients with challenging behaviour, psychological and psychiatric needs in purposeful treatment programmes, in collaboration with the MDT, to ensure the provision of holistic care.

4. Determines patients level of understanding of treatment plan to ensure valid patient consent and works within legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent.

5. Documents findings according to Trust policy and department procedure.

6. Uses recognised outcome measures and goal setting measures to motivate challenging clients.

7. Formulates and implements graded treatment plans.

8. Oversees treatment plans delegated to support staff, maintaining responsibility for overall care of patient.
