Clinical Specialist Sonographer

Job summary

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the largest specialist orthopaedic Trust in the UK with a world renowned reputation.

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled sonographer to support our radiologists in managing the ultrasound workload within the radiology department. As a Band 8a Specialist sonographer, you will play a key role in providing a high quality diagnostic ultrasound scans across a diverse patient group and presentations, often involving patients with complex condition. In addition to clinical practice, you will be required to help in reviewing and updating policies, procedures and other governance documents. You will have time to perform some administrative duties. You will also work alongside radiologists and fellows to provide an effective and efficient service across the Trust, whilst adhering to departmental protocols and ensuring optimum patient care.

Main duties of the job

You will provide an efficient, high quality ultrasound service with unsupervised scans and written reports for the referrers, including:

  • Liaising with referrers, radiologists, wards and other clinicians, acting as a point expert advice on ultrasound services
  • Working with superintendents in Imaging department to enhance quality of care and service delivery
  • Contributing to department's quality improvement programmes and other governance activities
  • Updating Policies and procedures in line with new legislation for the imaging department
  • Providing mentorship and supervision to students
  • Reporting and acting on reported faults, clinical incidents, complaints and near misses pertaining to imaging equipment and patients within the department.
