Job summary
We welcome applications for a Senior Nursing Sister in Radiology at the RNOH. You will be based primarily at our Stanmore site but you will also be expected to attend Bolsover Street once a week.
You role will to lead on the day to day running of nursing care within the imaging department and to have overall responsibility of the Health Care Assistants within the department. You will also be expected to be responsible for the assessment of individual care needs especially the anti-coagulation screening for patients referred to imaging for procedures.
Main duties of the job
Give relevant age-appropriate advice, guidance and support during the care of all adult and paediatric patients and their families that attend the Imaging Department.
Assist Consultant Radiologists and when necessary, advise junior doctors with any process or procedure necessary for the examination of patients including interventional investigations. The assistance and advice will involve having specialist knowledge of equipment required; organisation of the date and time for the procedure; ensuring all necessary pre-procedure tests have been carried out and are satisfactory or any abnormality rectified; 'scrub-up' and using specialised skills assist the radiologist throughout the procedure.
Participate and teaches as appropriate and give formal lectures/ training sessions as required.
Facilitate the development of newly qualified staff nurses and Health Care Assistants.
Teach and supervise staff within the Imaging Department.
Expert in the clinical/specialised skills required (which will include manipulation of fine guidewires and catheters, cannulation, IV administration, urinary catheterisation) and teach, inform and coach others.
Provide specialised nursing care to patients in preparation for, during and while recovering from interventional procedures.
