Job summary

A challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy team at the RNOH. We are seeking a forward thinking and highly motivated Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician to be trained within the workplace and complete a two year apprenticeship training programme of underpinning knowledge and NVQ assessments.

The RNOH is a unique hospital site situated in acres of greenery and has recently completed the redevelopment of a new ward block and four new Theatres at the Stanmore site. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in a pharmacy career to 'earn while they learn' to complete a qualification and register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Main duties of the job

This qualification will be delivered as part of a blended learning package with trainees obtaining their knowledge through virtual learning one day a week for two years to complete the NVQ element as well as being assessed also over two years in the workplace. There is huge scope for the successful applicant to develop on both a personal and professional level through exposure to all departmental activities.

The Pharmacy Department has a strong focus on medicines optimisation and innovative pharmaceutical practice. This offers exciting opportunities for professional development for all staff.

The post holder will need to have excellent communication skills, good interpersonal and IT skills, and have the ability to work independently as well as in a team in a dynamic Pharmacy department.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be trained to carry out the following:

Provide dispensary-based patient services to inpatients and outpatients

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver patient focused medicines optimisation through timely supply of medicines, utilisation of patients own medicines and medicines counselling

Participate in medicines optimisation, ward top-up and ward-based dispensing.

Through provision of an effective Pharmacy service and the training provided, this post will:

  • Allow the post holder to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to register with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Allow the post holder to gain a wide range of experience in various areas of the Pharmacy Department
  • To strengthen organisational skills by co-ordination and prioritisation of work.

Please note the successful applicant must meet the essential criteria below:

Be able to produce certificates at interview to evidence a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above in Maths, English and Science.

Have the right to live and work in the UK, in line with government apprenticeship guidance, sponsorship cannot be offered

Undertake enrolment activities, leading to a successful offer to study

Commit to study the full apprenticeship programme

Attendance of training at the associated HEI is considered to be essential

The interview will include a numeracy and literacy test.
