Job summary
The RNOH is looking to appoint a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist interest in adult Limb Reconstruction and Bone infection.
This is a full time consultant post for 40 hrs week consisting of Outpatient clinical work, theatre, in-patients care, teaching and organising and planning of lists and regular timetable.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside three experienced Limb Reconstruction Consultants who are leaders in their field. The new Consultant is expected to have a varied range of clinical interests to compliment the skills of the existing consultant team in the limb reconstruction department, the development of which will be supported. This includes a specialist interest in Bone infection.
The Trust is the premier institution solely devoted to an Orthopaedic workload. The primary base is at Brockley Hill, Stanmore Middlesex (240 beds; outpatients/inpatient facilities) supported by Central London outpatient facilities, which opened in December 2009. There is no acute emergency facility but the Trust has a significant secondary complex spinal trauma referral base.
Main duties of the job
Duties at the RNOH include outpatient clinic work, theatre, in-patient care, teaching and organisation and planning of lists and registrar timetables.
The new Consultant is expected to have a varied range of clinical interests to compliment the skills of the existing consultant team in the limb reconstruction department, the development of which will be supported. This includes a specialist interest in Bone and soft-tissue infection.
The post holder will be expected to engage in continuing professional development.
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer prior to the commencement date of the appointment.
The job plan shall be reviewed annually. It will cover all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, including a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external.
It shall also include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.
The post holder will be expected to take an active part in research activities in the department and will be supported to develop their own research interests.
