Job summary
The Spinal Cord Injury Centre offers lifelong follow up for its patients to monitor health needs, promote community reintegration and access the full range of rehabilitation services at the Centre. The workload of the Physician Associate is mainly with inpatients in the initial period after sustaining a spinal cord injury. Elective re-admissions allow patients with established injury to have intensive therapy to improve their functional independence or have specific medical issues addressed. The medical team also have a liaison with the Spinal Research Team, Intensive Care, and the Pain Management team.
Main duties of the job
Take part in all of the treatment and preventative healthcare services of the employing facility as and when requested, and work within the policies and procedures of the organisation.
Practice under the supervision of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and other medically qualified staff.
Take patient histories and perform physical examinations of a patient. Record or dictate the history and physical in the medical record.
Order and interpret diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or various other therapies. Orders may be verbal or written.
Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to recognise early stages of serious medical, emotional or mental health problems in the patients.
