Principal Pharmacist - Medicines Governance and Digital Medicines

Job summary

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) and requires an innovative individual who will be responsible for progressing the Pharmacy department's Medicines Governance and Digital Medicines strategies as part of a team. You will have the characteristics of a self-motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking individual with excellent communication skills, a background in governance and digital medicines such that you can provide leadership and clinical expertise to shape these programmes for the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Developing, monitoring and reviewing the departmental clinical governance arrangements including aspects of policy, guideline and risk management.
  • Lead, manage and develop the medicines governance and digital medicines agendas for the Trust
  • Promote and ensure the safe use of medicines across the Trust, and be an expert and advocate in this area
  • Manage and support the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in the areas of medicines governance, medicines safety, digital medicines and education and training
  • As the Drug and Therapeutics Committee (DTC) Secretary, manage DTC meeting agendas/business and policies, procedures and governance plans related to medicines
  • Manage the RNOH formulary and represent RNOH on joint formulary/area prescribing committees as a formulary expert
  • Align the requirements of medicines governance and safety to the ongoing digital transformation work involving medicines e.g. ePMA/ePR
  • Be a pharmacy expert in the implementation and use of digital medicines systems employed by the Trust (e.g. ePMA, ePR, Pharmacy stock control etc)
  • Provide pharmacy leadership, and contribute to the wider medicines optimisation agenda across the Trust through the focus on the safe use of medicines and provision of expert clinical advice
  • Work as a specialist pharmacist in clinical areas requiring expert advice such as thrombo-prophylaxis/treatment and diabetes

  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Member of the GPhC
  • Post-Graduate Degree/Diploma in Pharmacy
  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Desirable

  • Independent Prescriber (or working towards qualification)
  • Completion of management or leadership course

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience as a 8a Pharmacist within an NHS acute secondary / tertiary setting
  • Experience of working with Drug and Therapeutic, Formulary and/or Area Prescribing Committees
  • Experience of Project Management
  • Experience in implementation and/or use of electronic prescribing and administration
  • Experience of working with senior management and chairpersonship of meetings
  • Proven Education and Training experience for Pharmacy, Medical, Nursing and other Healthcare Staff
