Job responsibilities

Ideally you will have had 5 years post qualification experience, with experience in Neuro-rehabilitation. We strongly encourage an informal visit or discussion on the phone regarding the post.

Secondment from another NHS organisation will be considered. We are willing to discuss part-time employment opportunity.

Qualifications

Essential

• DipCOT/ Degree in Occupational Therapy
• Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists or recognised equivalent
• Registered with Health Professions Council
• Evidence of CPD maintained portfolio
• Recent post graduate courses in relevant specialist area
• Attended courses related to staff supervision/development

Desirable

• Successful completion of recognised post-registration clinical course and / or training in specialist field such as OT with cancer patients
• Leadership Course

Experience

Essential

• Minimum 5 years post graduate experience
• A broad range of rotations as a Band 5/6 including neuro- rehabilitation
• 1 years NHS experience at Band 6 level
• Attained a high level of clinical competence in your specialist area
• Well reasoned account of career intentions at RNOH
• Experience of student and staff supervision
• Experience of leading audit in specialist area and demonstrates a sound understanding of quality issues
• Experience of teaching junior staff and undergraduates
• Participated in IPR
• Involvement in national clinical interest group

Desirable

• Experience in NHS
• Experience working with patients with complex needs
• Involvement/leadership of service improvement project
• Undertaken research / evaluation of practice / work based projects and initiated change
• Participated in IPRExperience as appraiser

Skills

Essential

• Up to date knowledge of professional practice and new research
• Detailed knowledge of biomechanical treatment approaches
• Advanced skills in: Splinting, wheelchair assessment, therapeutic patient handling & discharge planning.
• Understands legal responsibilities of profession
• Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear, concise and logical manner
• Competent IT skills Presentation skills
• Ability to organise and prioritise
• Ability to communicate with patients with impaired communication abilities. Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade patients with impaired cognitive abilities or physical senses.
• Demonstrates clinical reasoning, applying theory to practice
• Demonstrates a sound understanding of clinical governance and its implications for Occupational Therapy.Interview
• Ability to carry out moderate physical effort throughout the working day, often multi-tasking
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers, including those with terminal illness.
