Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated clinical nurse specialist who can deliver excellent patient care and is able to use their leadership and engagement skills to contribute to the growing Neuro-Urology and Urology/Sarcoma service within the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.

The successful candidate will join the established Neuro-Urology, Bowel and Sexual Function multi-disciplinary team to provide a specialist nursing service to our inpatient and outpatients.

The Urology/Sarcoma service is expanding and the successful candidate will work with the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist and Urology Consultants to deliver patient pathways and provide expert care for patients with complex urological reconstructive surgery.

We have a strong research and academic ethos. We encourage and support team members to educate, share knowledge, present and develop quality improvement projects to improve patient safety and outcomes.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours) based at the Stanmore site. Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

- The candidate needs to be an experienced neuro-urology nurse working at a specialist level. Knowledge and skills in the care of patients with a long term disability, complex urological surgery and cancer.- To work with the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist and the MDT to develop and deliver the Urology/Sarcoma specialist nursing service. Working collaboratively with the Sarcoma MDT for joint care of patients requiring complex urology surgery as part of their cancer pathway.- To perform and report urological investigations ie Video-urodynamics, urodynamics and flow rates for new and follow up patients. Presenting the results to the MDT and patients- To perform nurse led flexi-cystoscopy with support/supervision of the urology medical team.- To manage a caseload of patients to prepare them for urological surgery, liaising with other healthcare professionals internally and externally to ensure patients are fit for surgery and have informed decision making. To monitor them post discharge via nurse led telephone and face to face clinics.- The job will include mentoring from our current team. Key attributes for the individual should include: ability to work in a team; confidence to also work autonomously; a desire to improve clinical patient care; be a good communicator, and be compassionate to our patients.
