An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled, passionate mental health practitioner to join the Liaison Psychiatry Team at RNOH and help us further the care and understanding of people with orthopaedic/musculoskeletal conditions and mental health needs.
This is a new, trust wide role requiring innovation, flexibility, and collaboration across a number of teams, specialities and professions both internally and externally. So we are looking for someone who is a proactive leader, able to demonstrate excellent clinical proficiency, together with strong leadership and facilitative skills; be both self-directed and skilled at developing effective interdisciplinary relationships.
To be successful the post holder will need to be a highly skilled autonomous practitioner, who is well networked within mental health and their profession, and who is keen to help us develop our ambitions for mental health practice within orthopaedics and MSK.
We will support the successful candidate to undertake a masters level education programme to become an Advanced Clinical Practitioner if they have not already achieved this.
Main duties of the job
- To work as an expert independent mental health practitioner assessing and managing clinical scenarios related to mental health, challenging behaviours, risk and mental capacity, acting as an advocate for patients, staff and families where required. This will include assessing the requirement for 1:1 mental health practitioner provision as appropriate and liaison with community mental health teams.
- To undertake mental health clinical assessments of adults with mental health needs at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital to enable prompt assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This might include psychiatric assessment, psychological formulation, risk management, working collaboratively with the individual's medical and surgical teams, signposting or referring on for further specialist assessment if required
- Screen and triage referrals into the department assessing and advising on further action depending on eligibility for the service and urgency
- Provide on hand senior clinical leadership and support with urgent situations offering clinical support and advice to various clinical teams, inpatient settings with patients demonstrating psychiatric, psychological, and behavioural needs
- Provide clinical leadership and expert advice in relation to the monitoring and management of clinical risk, challenging non evidence-based practice leading change, and measuring e success against agreed performance indicators and outcome measures
About us
The Liaison Psychiatry team at the RNOH consists of 3 Consultant Psychiatrists, 1 Physician Associate and a Medical Secretary.
This is a new role within the team, one which can be developed with the support of the existing team.
The Liaison Psychiatry team work in partnership with the others members of the Multi-Disciplinary team to support patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions and mental health needs.
