Job summary

If yes, you might be the right candidate for this exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our friendly Infection Prevention and Control Team as an IPC Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Nurse.

Main duties of the job

The role holder will be part of the Infection Prevention and Control team, specializing in clinical follow up of patients after surgery across varied specialties, reviewing and assessing patient risk of infection. It involves data collection, planning and monitoring patient progress post discharge via letter/ telephone as well as face-to-face patient assessment. The role involves undertaking of robust surveillance on all patients following surgery, ranging from spinal surgeries, joint reconstructions or complex bone tumour excisions with prosthetic implantations. In addition, the role holder will be involved in staff and patient education on how to manage and reduce the risk infections following surgery. This broad range of surveillance is aimed to further reduce infections rates after surgery to the lowest level thereby improving quality of care and ensuring patient safety and positive outcomes.

The candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge in the area of surgical nursing, wound management, audit and surveillance. You will need as minimum, to be an NMC registered RN and have some experience of undertaking surveillance or working within the infection control service either in an acute hospital or community setting. The role involves and requires the individual to act as a role model at all times, motivating and supporting all staff in the appropriate management of patients.

You will need to be assertive, have effective communication skills and be a supportive team member with ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
