Job summary

Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor in Orthopaedics and Tier 1 Clinical Lead at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. The successful candidate will form a bridge between consultants, middle grade doctors and the Tier 1 level of doctors (FY1-ST2 equivalent). Experience in orthopaedics is desirable but not essential, however the applicant must have completed at least 4 year's full-time postgraduate training.

Based in Stanmore, RNOH is now a national tertiary hospital that provides a comprehensive range of neuro-musculoskeletal health care ranging from acute spinal injury and complex bone tumour management to orthopaedic medicine and specialist rehabilitation. As a national and international centre of excellence, we treat patients from all over the UK and other parts of the world, many of whom are tertiary referrals for second opinions or for treatment of complex or rare conditions.

The post is full time and may include working across a full-shift timetable and participation in an out of hours rota (including weekends).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to perform several duties including:

  • Clinical duties on the in-patient wards, Theatre and Day Surgery Units according to experience
  • Rota coordination of the Tier 1 general and on-call rotas including leave requests and management of sickness absence
  • Coordination of the Tier 1 education programme and providing 'on-the-job' teaching and training

As far as is practical, the appointee will be expected to provide emergency cover for colleagues when required.

Training will be provided if required and the successful applicant will be supported to pursue a personal development plan appropriate to them.
