An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to train to become a Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist working predominantly in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.
Our team provides multi-modal intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) for approximately 1000 surgical procedures a year.
The successful candidate will undergo work-based training to become proficient in IONM and to support the outpatient Neurodiagnostic clinics. This role would be well suited to someone with knowledge and experience of clinical measurements.
During your training you will develop your skills and competencies to meet the full requirements needed to be a Band 7 Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist within our team at the RNOH.
The successful candidate will be appointed on a 4 year learning contract under an annex 21 training scheme. Following successful completion of the programme you will be guaranteed a Band 7 substantive post.
Remuneration during training;
Year 1 =60% of the top of a Band 7
Year 2 =65% of the top of a Band 7
Year 3 =70% of the top of a Band 7
Year 4 =75% of the top of a Band 7
When the necessary competencies are met you will be required to take part in the on-call rota performing intraoperative monitoring outside of normal working hours.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would be expected to work across all areas of the department.
Main Duties include:
- Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring performed during;
- Complex neuro-spinal and spinal-orthopaedic procedures.
- Peripheral Nerve injury surgery.
- Assisting in electromyography clinics.
- Nerve conduction studies for diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Participate in the intraoperative Neuromonitoring on-call service.
You will be educated to Bachelors degree level in a Neuroscience related or scientific subject. You will also have a willingness and capability to train and work at a Masters degree level.
This role is patient facing and primarily theatre based. Excellent communication and team working skills are paramount.

The RNOH is a national centre of excellence with an international reputation for diagnosis, assessment and treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions. Following on from the opening of our new inpatient building we are now expanding our surgical capacity with the addition of four theatres in a new state of the art surgical suite.
Our department is a small friendly unit, which predominantly provides intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring during spinal and peripheral nerve injury surgery.
Research and ongoing development is highly encouraged within the Trust. We actively encourage staff to carry out presentations and participate in teaching sessions regularly held in the department.
