Job summary

The Darzi Fellowship Clinical Leadership Programme is designed to build the training and development of senior clinical leaders. It entails a 12-month Fellowship Challenge alongside a PGCert Leadership in Health (Darzi) over the course of the 2023/24 academic year. The programme offers Fellows a unique opportunity to develop the capability skills necessary for their future roles as clinical leaders. It creates opportunities to work with medical directors (or equivalent) and lead the development of service changes and quality. We welcome applications from experienced and dedicated clinicians who have a proved interest in education and multi-disciplinary learning. The Darzi Fellowship is considered a prestigious post and is highly recommended for aspiring clinical leaders.

The Royal National Orthopaedic NHS Trust is committed to the development of Advancing Practice (AP) across the organisation. This is a one-year fixed term contract or secondment opportunity in the first instance. This post aims to ensure a cohesive Trust wide approach to advancing practice and the establishment and governance of advanced practice roles within services. The post holder will work in partnership with, and support clinical leaders and managers, to help develop and embed an Advancing Practice Policy aligned to the Health Education England (HEE) Advanced Practice Framework.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities:

  • Take a lead role for Advancing Practice, across the Trust.
  • Act as an expert on the Advanced Practice Framework and pathway providing advice and guidance to site-based stakeholders
  • To lead the scoping of the current workforce at the Trust.
  • Develop a coordinated approach to advancing practice across the trust.
  • Support the strategic planning for Advanced Practice role implementation within the Divisions,
  • Provide expert guidance to services as to how advanced practice roles could work within their services as part of wider workforce planning and workforce transformation.
  • Assist on the development of business cases to support divisions/units looking to engage with advancing practice.
  • Ensure that adequate resources are available, to educate teams about the advancing practice framework. To work with colleagues to ensure the sustainability of advancing practice development initiatives and practices.
  • Establish a robust supervision model for advanced practice roles throughout the trust and be responsible for ensuring sound governance of the model used
  • To ensure that the practitioner supervision model developed will effectively support, supervise and coach practitioners in practice. With the aim of increasing their competence, capability and confidence.
  • To lead on developing generic components of standard operation procedures, job descriptions and person specification for advancing practice roles across the Trust

  • Advise and influence the trust strategic direction for advancing practice.
  • Represent the Trust at local, regional and national forums/networks to identify and share best practice.
  • Provide a set of principles for the recruitment and selection process for advanced practice roles.
  • Research, develop and establish the use of suitable evaluation and quality assurance tools.
  • Explore the development of inter-professional education opportunities that support the development of advanced practice skills and knowledge.
