Job summary
As a Rheumatology Consultant you will play a key part in providing Rheumatology services at RNOH. You will work within a team including 4 other Rheumatology Consultants, 1 LTFT Sports, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine consultant (currently a locum post, but planned for conversion to Substantive role) and 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists as well as a North London Rheumatology ST3+ registrar, a London Rehabilitation ST3+ registrar and a foundation equivalent doctor. The service provides general rheumatology services as well as specific services for patients with Hypermobility, Chronic Pain including CRPS and metabolic bone diseases. This post-holder will provide services for general rheumatology as well as pain and CRPS clinics.
In-patient workload is a weekly ward round of patients admitted for a 3 week inpatient rehabilitation or pain management programme (mon-fri admissions each week) which is run by an MDT of AHPs (Psychology, nursing, physio and OT).
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop specialist interests depending on their professional needs and have time working in a teaching capacity with specialist registrars across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role is to provide outpatient rheumatology services for adults (18+) at RNOH. The indicative job plan includes 4 outpatient clinics a week including hypermobility and pain clinics.
We are looking for an experienced rheumatologist who is well grounded in general rheumatology and also has experience in patients with hypermobility and chronic pain.
We are also looking for a team player who will contribute to the development and quality of the rheumatology department and SPA time is available for this. This may be in education, research, governance or management roles depending on the skills of the successful applicant.

The Rheumatology team has grown in recent years with expansion of consultants, registrars and nurse specialists. We are a tertiary centre for Chronic Pain, Hypermobility and Metabolic Bone Diseases. There is a high level of expertise in this area. There are well established multi-disciplinary ways of working and the team strives together to provide high quality care for our patients.
Rheumatology works alongside other medical specialities at RNOH including rehabilitation medicine (spinal cord injury and prosthetics), neurophysiology and Chronic pain (which is delivered by the anaesthetics department).
