Band 7 Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Job summary

The role of this post is to play a supporting role in the field of PET/CT imaging as well as general nuclear medicine service duties where possible. This includes developing and maintaining an efficient service with regard to carrying out PET/CT studies. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the PET/CT service manager and PET/CT technologists to provide robust service provision. The post will still have a role in general Nuclear Medicine to help support staff rotation and to enable the post holder to maintain skills in Nuclear Medicine if possible.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the service manager with updating the relevant Standard Operating Procedures when required and will help implement and co-ordinate, where required, any changes to the operating times such as extended service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will perform routine and non-routine PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine procedures. Decisions relating to clinical priorities are the responsibility of the Consultants in Nuclear Medicine. The Grade C Clinical Scientist in Nuclear Medicine is responsible for factors affecting the overall quality of the service. The work nevertheless involves significant personal responsibility for patient care and for operating complex equipment

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential

  • oBTEC/SCOTVEC/HNC or degree or equivalent in an appropriate scientific subject

Experience

Essential

  • oproven track record of experience of scientific/technical work in a clinical environment.
  • oExperience in Nuclear Medicine image analysis
  • oExperience with managing and/or leading a team

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Practical efficacy with expensive, manually operated and computer-controlled clinical equipment to perform PET/CT imaging investigations on the full range of patients referred to the Nuclear Medicine PET/CT service
  • Understanding of the technical details necessary to perform PET/CT scans with computer interface, including computer analysis, quality control and computer based booking system
  • Proven track record of competence in work involving patient care
  • Proven track record of competence drawing up and administering i.v. injections and in the use of unsealed radioactive sources particularly with heavy shielding.
  • Ability to carry out radiation monitoring and decontamination if necessary
