Job summary
The Pharmacy Support Worker provides pharmaceutical services in the pharmacy ensuring efficient and high quality patient experience is maintained.
The post holder will consistently work in an accurate, effective and efficient manner to support the provision of a high quality service to patients, trust staff and departments.The post holder will be part of a high performing team that is expected to demonstrate behaviours that promote pharmacies and Royal Free's World Class Care values. This means that in undertaking this role the post holder is expected at all times to behave in a way that demonstrates commitment to the delivery of respectful and compassionate care as described below.
The post holder will be based at pharmacies under Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust.

In order to help us maintain this, we are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and committed Band 3 Pharmacy Support Workers to join the temporary staffing BANK team to work across all sites.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in reception duties and the general dispensing of medicines. They will be the link between patients, their carers and/or representatives, medical staff and visitors to the dispensary and pharmacy staff. They will take in out-patient prescriptions, To Take Away (TTA) prescriptions and requisitions and handle financial transactions. They will behave in a manner that is both sensitive and that ensures patient confidentiality at all times.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1.To participate in the dispensing of in-patient/out patient (BH only) prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist/qualified pharmacy.technician (after appropriate training), including ward based dispensing.
2.Observe safe working practices to avoid placing themselves, other staff, patients or visitors at risk by their actions.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
1.To deal promptly and appropriately with all queries (telephone calls. patient queries, ward issues) referring when necessary
2.To deliver urgent items and controlled drugs to wards, clinics and departments when required
3.To dispense medication for in-patients, private patients and patients being discharged from the hospital in a timely and accurate manner.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
1.To ensure that any collected items are signed for by a Healthcare professional, patient or their representative.
2.To resolve enquiries and complaints from Healthcare Professionals and patients or their representatives in a caring and sensitive manner.
3.To deal promptly and appropriately with all telephone and personal queries, referring when necessary.
4.To maintain the records of FP10 HP prescription receipts and issues (site specific).
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES
1.To process medications returned by patients in accordance with COSHH and departmental regulations.
2.To count and record Clinical Trials returns. (site specific).
3.To be aware of and put into practice the principles of good stock control at all times, including correctly storing stock, stock rotation and routine checking of expiry dates.
4.To participate in stock management, including stock counts & maintaining cold chain storage for medicines during receipt, dispensing, checking and delivery processes.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES
1.To assist in reception duties including taking in prescriptions, collection of fees (BH only) and entry of prescription details onto computer system (PTS prescription tracking system) as per procedures.
2.To advise the patient or their representative of the estimated waiting time.
3.To unpack, check, record, and put into stock pharmaceutical products according to SOPs. Completing documentation including dating and signing.
