Job summary

This 12-month fixed-term Band 8a Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) & Team Co-Lead post is an exciting opportunity to join the Chronic Fatigue Service at the Royal Free Hospital. Working alongside the existing APP and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide joint clinical and operational leadership for a specialist ME/CFS service.

You will oversee the triage of all incoming referrals, ensuring safe and timely access to assessment and treatment. Using highly specialist clinical reasoning, you will support accurate diagnosis and deliver advanced assessment, formulation and intervention for individuals with chronic fatigue. This includes contributing to the virtual Fatigue Management Programme and providing specialist 1:1 physiotherapy for patients unable to participate in group-based interventions.

You will also play a key role in service development, clinical governance, pathway improvement and partnership working with primary care, community teams, voluntary-sector partners and regional commissioners.

Main duties of the job

Provide joint leadership for the Chronic Fatigue Service, offering clinical supervision, guidance and role-modelling to MDT colleagues.Triage all new referrals and ensure safe prioritisation, appropriate redirection and effective risk management.Deliver advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment for people with ME/CFS using psychologically informed, biopsychosocial approaches.Contribute to the virtual Fatigue Management Programme and deliver specialist one-to-one physiotherapy where required.Develop personalised treatment plans and communicate effectively with patients, GPs and referrers.Participate in weekly MDT meetings and support junior team members in daily clinical practice.Lead or contribute to clinical governance activities, including audit, incident review, safeguarding, documentation standards and outcome measurement.Support service improvement, pathway refinement, and development of Standard Operating Procedures.Build and maintain relationships with primary care, community and voluntary-sector partners to promote integrated care.Line manage junior physiotherapy staff, overseeing performance, appraisal and professional development.Work efficiently within available resources and contribute to meeting divisional financial targets.
