Head of Gynaecology Nursing

Main base Barnet Hospital with multi-site working

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the directorate leadership team alongside the general managers and Clinical director across the assigned directorate remit.

The Head of Nursing will provide effective, visible clinical and professional leadershipfor nursing staff across their assigned directorate remit or responsibility. The post-holder will be responsible for leading nursing teams of cross-site/locality services and will therefore be expected to work across sites.

To be responsible for assuring professional standards and practice in all aspects of nursing and midwifery practice are achieved within the assigned directorate remit, including adhering to statutory regulations to deliver excellent patient care.

To line manage, Matrons, Lead and Specialist nurses in the directorate.To ensure the delivery and compliance of mandatory/appraisal training requirements for all nursing staff in the directorate.To work collaboratively across all sites with directorate and divisional teams and senior nursing colleagues to promote and enhance both patient and staff experience.To take part in the out of hours on call rota and ensure competencies and training are up to date.Deputise for the divisional director of nursing where required.The post holder will spend at least 20% of time in clinical practice

  • Registered trained nurse MSc and/ or equivalent clinical experience that recognises highly developed and complex levels of knowledge
  • Management/leadership qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Specialist knowledge at doctorate level or equivalent experience in a related field

  • Significant acute operational nursing experience in a complex healthcare organisation
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them
  • Experience in the supervision and management of staff and students
