Senior Clinical Fellow in Haemophilia and Thrombosis

Job summary

To contribute to the safe and effective use of anticoagulant and haemophilia medicines across the Trust. Key duties include:

- Supporting the safe and effective prescribing of medications for management of inherited and acquired bleeding disorders and anticoagulants including ongoing audit to ensure compliance with guidelines and targets

- Ensuring the cost-effective use of clotting factors and related medication and anticoagulants in line with national and local guidelines

- Contributing to the development of hospital guidelines and protocols

- Teaching and training of healthcare professionals in the safe use of the above medications

- To contribute to the development of PGD's

- Leading on Homecare delivery of haemophilia/anticoagulation medicines

- Act as expert resource on the use of the above medications

Main duties of the job

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in Haemophilia and thrombosis clinics
  • Review patients walk in patients with haemostasis and thrombosis issues including review of patients in clinical trials and comply with good clinical practice
  • Responsible for surgical plans for patients with inherited bleeding disorders and bridging anticoagulation plans for complex surgeries in patients on long term anticoagulation
  • Run telephone clinics for patients affected by COVID and coagulation
  • Support national studies in the area of COVID and coagulation and other haemostasis and thrombosis studies on the national portfolio.
  • Review laboratory data and understand the principles for coagulation testing and support other clinical staff in choosing the right test
  • Coordinate diagnostic and treatment procedures along with the Junior haematology registrars
  • Support the nurses and lab team for the running of routine service
