Job summary
The post holder will support the Senior Manual Handling Advisor throughout the whole range of manual handling service functions and act as subject matter expert for manual handling training supporting the Learning and Development team to ensure manual handling training is fit for purpose and reflects current best practice and industry standards.
The post holder will act as a key competent person for the Trust on Manual Handling, providing support, advice and training in all areas of manual handling, including standard patient handling as well as the handling of inanimate loads and objects.
The post holder may also be required to provide general health and safety support from time to time.
They will work proactively with managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the hospital sites and provide direct support and guidance to the health and safety team, learning and development team and staff at all levels of the organisation (both clinical and non-clinical)..
The post holder will develop and support the delivery of manual handling training across the Trust as well as ensuring the quality of training from the Trust manual handling trainer and any other external manual handling contracted trainers.
Main duties of the job
implement the Trust H&S Strategy, Risk Management Standards programmes and policies.
Implement MH Policy and procedures.
Provide advice and support to the H&S team and Trust staff on MH issues
Are confident and competent to deal with MH issues in an appropriate and safe manner.
Use the Trust Risk Management System to analyse data identify trends and areas of concern, providing solutions to protect staff and patients and improve the Trust's safety performance.
Ensure that the appropriate external agencies are informed of incidents within the required time frames
Undertake detailed MH risk assessments that culminate in robust risk reduction plans.
Develop and regularly undertake compliance audits
Provide expert advice on MH to staff and managers
Attend H & S committees and working groups as appropriate to the role
Produce policies, procedures and communications, that assist Trust management and staff to comply with H & S legislation and best practice.
Prepare, plan, deliver and continually evaluate MH training to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligation to provide information, instruction, training, and supervision to clinical and non-clinical staff, to ensure they can work safely.
Undertake duties relevant to the provision of a comprehensive manual handling service commensurate with the grade as directed by the Senior Manual Handling Advisor.
