Macmillan Cancer Information Assistant

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Macmillan Cancer Information Assistant to join the team working part time from Monday to Wednesday 9:00am - 5:00pm. This is a fixed term post until the end of March 2026 to cover a secondment.

We offer a progressive environment with the support of a team and the department.

  • The post holder will help to provide a basic-level information service for cancer patients, people affected by cancer, clinical staff and the public.
  • The post holder will help to assess the information and support needs of service users, providing the appropriate level of intervention, with signposting to other support services as required.
  • The post holder will offer person-centred cancer information, through face-to-face, email, telephone, and video interactions.
  • The post holder will be based mainly at North Middlesex Hospital within the Macmillan Information Centre, and will also provide cover in other trust Macmillan Information Centres . Some information outreach work at community healthcare locations will also be expected in this role.

The post holder will need to have the self-confidence, skills, knowledge and experience to work independently and flexibly, however Macmillan Information Specialists based at other Centres will be available for advice when required.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will help to provide a basic-level information service for cancer patients, people affected by cancer, clinical staff and the public.
  • The post holder will help to assess the information and support needs of service users, providing the appropriate level of intervention, with signposting to other support services as required.
  • The post holder will offer person-centred cancer information, through face-to-face, email, telephone, and video interactions.
  • The post holder will know where to find information covering the entire range of cancers, all treatment modalities, local clinical services, statutory benefit issues, complementary therapies, and access to national/local support organisations.
  • The post holder will be based mainly at North Middlesex Hospital within the Macmillan Information Centre, and will also provide cover in other trust Macmillan Information Centres . Some information outreach work at community healthcare locations will also be expected in this role.
  • The post holder will work within Operational Policies for the Macmillan Information Centre and will be expected to use their own judgement and initiative in doing so.
