Job summary
This post is within the Early Years Speech and Language Therapy team. The post holder will provide speech and language intervention to a designated caseload of children with a range of speech, language and communication needs, in Enfield nurseries, children's centres and clinics. The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively and consultatively with parents/carers and with colleagues in health, education and social services in planning and delivery of services. The postholder will receive regular supervision from a more senior colleague and will have access to clinical leads in a number of areas to support and develop their practice.
The post holder will participate in CPD activities and will contribute to departmental meetings, clinical audit and projects. They will deliver training, initially with a more senior colleague, to other professionals and parents/carers on all aspects of speech, language and communication and will participate in the training of speech and language therapy students and supervise the work of SLTAs and volunteers.
Main duties of the job
To manage a defined caseload of early years children with speech language and communication needs with support from senior colleagues.
To provide advice and programmes to others regarding the management and care of children with speech, language and communication needs
To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and manage clinical risk within defined caseload.
To develop the ability to monitor and reflect on auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of client's communication and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness. This includes adapting and facilitating own communication according to perceived client needs.
To recommend and implement alternative/augmentative communication programmes and equipment necessary to meet individual needs. This includes sign language, symbol systems and communication books.
To demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice with peers/clinical supervisor and seek support as necessary.
To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with RCSLT professional standards and local trust policies.
To gather client related activity data accurately and regularly, ensuring the provision of such information.
To support more junior staff/students as required.
