An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new band 5 Radiopharmacy Technician position to join the Radiopharmacy team (based in Nuclear Medicine) at the Royal Free Hospital, London.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated team member with excellent attention to detail and accuracy qualities, effective communication skills, a flexible approach and an ability to work under pressure.
This post will enable you to develop and utilise your skills within the speciality of Radiopharmacy.
Please note this vacancy is banded dependent upon the applicants experience relevant to this post. We are looking for candidates that meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on band 5. Applicants that meet the requirements for band 4 will also be considered. This would be a 1-3 year fixed term training post, with the expectation that the successful candidate will complete the relevant training within this term. Once training is complete, the role would become a permanent band 5 post.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be required to enable the delivery of a comprehensive, efficient and high quality clinical radiopharmacy service to the Trust and any external customers. The role includes the maintenance of the facility / equipment and aseptic manufacture and QC of a range of radiopharmaceuticals whilst complying with relevant statutory requirements including those related to GMP as defined in the MHRA Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturer and Distributors. The post-holder should have a experience of aseptic manufacturing and/or working with radioactive materials.
Staff are required to work flexible hours as necessary for the service schedule. The normal hours of the department are currently 07:00 - 16:00, and staff work shifts to cover the service, with start times varying between 06:30-07:30. There may be occasions when duties have to be performed at weekends.

The Royal Free London NHS Trust is a modern teaching hospital situated in North London near Hampstead Heath. The Nuclear Medicine department, with three gamma cameras and two PET/CT cameras for diagnostic imaging, undertakes many imaging investigations, a specific range of laboratory-based tests and a range of therapy procedures.
The Radiopharmacy is situated within the Nuclear Medicine department, housing four negative pressure isolators and fully equipped QC lab; supplying a range of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals to the Nuclear Medicine Department and the National Amyloidosis Centre, under a MHRA Manufacturer's Specials Licence.
The Radiopharmacy also holds a MIA(IMP) Licence which allows the unit to manufacture radiopharmaceuticals for clinical trials, to contribute to a range of research activities based on collaboration with other departments of the hospital, the medical school and with other hospitals.
The Radiopharmacy also assist in the procurement of radiopharmaceuticals and providing clinical support.
The post-holder will be a member of the team of pharmacists, scientists and technicians.
