Main duties of the job

The Paediatric nursing team forms part of the Integrated Children's services at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals and is part of the Royal Free NHS Trust.The post holder will work under the direction of the ward senior sister with responsibility for the assessment of care needs for all patients, ensuring appropriately planned care is both implemented and evaluated.

The Post holder is expected to work with minimal supervision and will be designated to work as part of the nursing team at Royal Free Hospital.He/she will provide care at 6 North without supervision to facilitate the prevention of admission or reduction in hospitalisation.He/ she will act as an effective clinical support for students.

The post holder will work as part of the 6 North Nursing Team with support from the ward manager and band 6 Sister. To contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation of evidence-based care to children and their families and carers, and work in a collaborative manner with other agencies to ensure a seamless service for the children.

Circumstances may arise for the post holder to assist in providing clinical cover in all areas of the paediatric unit.

To assist with the development of policies with non-paediatric colleagues, which facilitate smooth transition to adult services.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES To assess the need for equipment within the home, facilitate supplies and provide training for parents and carers in the safe and effective use. Ensure the equipment which is loaned is maintained and serviced in accordance with guidelines from the Medical Devices Agency. To be responsible for the care and safe handling of equipment and accessories in the area of work. To ensure pay and non-pay expenditure is kept to a minimum whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING AND MANAGING To act as a role model and resource to others in clinical and professional matters. To attend team meetings and clinical supervision as required. To co-ordinate own day to day workload.
