Job summary
To assist the transplant clinical team in ensuring that all agreed inpatientmanagement and treatment protocols are carried out promptly and efficiently.To provide specialist advice and support to potential and actual transplant patientsand their families.To take part in an on call rota for donor offers and organisation of the recipientoperation, in liaison with the medical staff, providing support to the patient's familyduring the procedure.To participate in development of standards and protocols and in multidisciplinaryaudit of the transplant service and in the clinical governance agenda of the Trust.To assist with the administration of the transplant waiting list, assessmentadmissions and follow-up admissions.To promote the work of the clinical transplant service within the Trust and atexternal level.
Main duties of the job
This rewarding role requires an experienced registered nurse who has significant experience in an acute nursing role. Hepatology, organ donation, transplant or liver transplant nursing experience may be an advantage but it is not essential, more important is enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and the ability to work autonomously, acting as an advocate for patients within the multi-disciplinary team.

- Physical, psychological and social patient assessmentand management ofpre transplant patients.
- Patient andfamily education in areas such as transplant process,medication management and long termhealth promotion.
- In patient and out patient post transplant follow up, providingpatient assessment, management and education.
- Participation in multi disciplinary team meetings, audit, assisting in research projects, staff education and undertaking ad-hoc projects as required .
You will also participate ina 24 hour on call rota. Whenon call you will beworking closely with donor and transplant teams nationwide to facilitate life saving liver transplants for patients. You will be the key point of contact forthe patient, the donor teams and the surgical, medical, ward, theatre and support teams within the Royal Free. After a period of induction you will work autonomously to organise these transplants which often occur out of hours and at short notice.
