The Royal Free London sleep & ventilation service is an award winning service that strives to provide excellent care using novel technology & pathways. The Royal Free Hospital is recruiting for a sleep & ventilation practitioner. The post holder will join the multi-disciplinary team in the care of patients with sleep disordered breathing & respiratory failure, mainly within the outpatient setting. It is an exciting opportunity for nursing/ allied health professionals/ physiologist who have experience in sleep reporting, continuous positive airway pressure & non-invasive ventilation. The team is driven to provide excellent patient care using the latest clinical research.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assess, treat and support patients on domiciliary & acute non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and positive airway pressure (PAP)
The post holder is responsible for ensuring diagnostics provided by the sleep and ventilation team are of high quality and undertaken and reported within agreed timeframes
The post holder is required to provide outpatient clinics for patients being managed by the seep and ventilation service; which will include joint clinics with consultant physicians, registrars and other members of the MDT Be involved with the development and audit of guidelines and protocols for the management of patients with respiratory problems. Job responsibilities
- To demonstrate highly specialist clinical skills and advanced knowledge within the field of chronic respiratory care and provide specialist support and advice and support to the multi-disciplinary team within the organisation. To use specialist theoretical and practical knowledge gained from postgraduate study and experience in the treatment of patients.
- To have an expert working knowledge of the specialist equipment required for the domiciliary NIV service (e.g. NIV machines/interfaces).
- To support patients through the sleep and ventilation pathways and be responsible for clinical assessment, performing diagnostic tests and interpreting data.
- To participate in outpatient clinics. This work requires the post holder to work primarily autonomously and participate in clinics with the lead consultant for sleep and ventilation.
- To work independently with several IT systems including CPAP and NIV patient monitoring software.
- To monitor compliance of CPAP and NIV use remotely and be able to clinically reason and apply the data to the care of the patient.
- To assist with budget management of the sleep and ventilation service
- To manage stock control for relevant area and ensure ordering in completed in an effective and timely manner
- Undertake recruitment, the supervision, organisation and line management of clinical and administration staff.
- Monitor staff performance and carry out annual staff appraisal, linking development priorities to those of the Trust.
- Actively manage staff absence and sickness
- To attend relevant staff and management meetings, tutorials, training sessions, and external courses.
- To develop, implement and audit innovative methods of delivering education sessions, e.g. group workshops for patients and their carers, digital resources
