Job summary

The post holder will assist the Chief Pharmacy Technician - Patient Services in the delivery and development of an efficient dispensary service in line with CQC standards, demonstrating comprehensive communication and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Dispensary Manager you will, in conjunction with the Chief Technician, provide a full and comprehensive dispensing service to supply medications for patient undergoing treatment and discharge medications within the hospital .

You will assist with the day to day running of services, management and development of staff and service improvements within the Inpatient pharmacy at the Royal Free Hospital.

We are looking for a GPhC qualified technician who is ready to develop themselves further in the management of service provision and staff. You will be a qualified or nearly qualified accredited checking Technician with significant post qualification hospital pharmacy experience. You would be familiar with JAC medicines management systems and automated robotic dispensing systems.

Experience in undertaking audits, writing procedures and operational management would be an advantage

You should have a confident, friendly, "can do" attitude and the ability to forge relationships with a wide range of staff to enhance the comprehensive, wide ranging Pharmacy services we provide in this large teaching hospital Trust.

Given the expanded structure and nature of our Trust there may be a need to visit on an occasional basis the Barnet and Chase Farm Pharmacy sites.

In conjunction with the Chief Technician Patient Services provide a full and comprehensive dispensing service to supply medications for patients undergoing treatment within the hospital, to ensure maximum efficiency, safety and economic drug use and to demonstrate professional accountability to enhance patient care.

To deliver an efficient Technician led pharmacy service and SLA services and to ensure the accurate and timely supply of medicines from Pharmacy dispensary and satellite dispensaries.

To provide a safe and efficient service provision, timely ordering and supply of medicines to meet medication requirements of patients and to meet Trust turnaround targets

Ensure the pharmacy dispensary is appropriately stocked, checked and organised

Provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical advice and information to other health care professionals. To refer any queries beyond their competence to the ward or dispensary pharmacist.

To communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team on a range of medicine-related issues.

To ensure the hospital formulary is adhered to and to provide advice and offer solutions when non-formulary/unlicensed drugs are prescribed.

Ensuring adherence to hospital antimicrobial policy as well as other clinical protocols for the Trust

To ensure that stock is stored appropriately and regularly reviewed through the use of robot and JAC usage reports

To oversee the provision of Anaphylaxis Kits, Cyanide Poisoning kits, Emergency Crash Boxes and Crash trolley stock throughout the hospital.

To ensure robust communication in place with ward pharmacists, ward staff and patients to discuss the availability and delivery time scale for medication

To monitor internal dispensing error rates and report on and devise strategies to resolve any problems identified and feedback to staff involved.
